The Kota Tinggi Museum was opened to the public on 30 August 2002. It was inaugurated by His Majesty Tunku Ibrahim Ismail Ibni Sultan Iskandar on 29 February 2004.

The Kota Tinggi Museum's collection is centred on the history of the Malay Sultanate, which lasted from 1528 until 1699.

Other artefacts from the same period were displayed along with the highlighted events.
